Russian Ukrainian Conflict

What started as a Russian “special military operation” on February 24th, has turned into a full scale attack on the Ukraine. Russia has gathered close to 150,000 men at Ukraine’s borders. Almost constant attacks have been raining down on the Ukraine- forcing citizens to abandon their homes and flee as refuges to surrounding countries, or stay and risk injury. An estimated over 800,000 civilians have fled the Ukraine.

Vladimir Putin, the current Russian president, has threatened “consequences never seen before” to countries that offer assistance in defending the Ukraine and attacking Russia. People speculate that this quote was a veiled threat of nuclear war. Currently Russia has the worlds largest nuclear arsenal with an estimated 6,257 nuclear warheads.

Many believe this sudden invasion, though building up for years, was spurred on by recent talk of the North Atlantic Trade Organization (NATO) offering membership to the Ukraine. Russia has demanded that NATO stop it’s eastward expansion, deny the Ukraine membership to NATO, AND roll back troop deployments in countries that had joined NATO after 1997.
