Cheering For a Cure

Cheering For a Cure

Brandi Wiliams

Every year, the DHS cheerleaders host a pink out game in October, where they raise money for someone local battling breast cancer.  This year, however, Dewey Cheer is changing things up a bit.  Instead of hosting a pink out game, Dewey cheer is teaming up with Caney Valley cheer to raise money for Danny Lee. Danny is a longtime member of our community with a student currently in our district.  He is a great supporter of Dewey Schools and the community. Danny is going through round two of colon cancer, so instead of filling the stands in pink on Oct. 25, both Dewey and Caney Valley fans are encouraged to pack the stands in dark blue.  The cheerleaders are also selling t-shirts to show their support, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the Lee family, and putting on a friendly coin drive competition between students at DHS and CVHS.  To purchase a shirt, click here.

Donations for the coin drive will be taken during the week of October 21 – 25, with the final push happening during the game on October 25th.  Students will be able to add positive points to their schools total all week long with coin or cash, adding 1 point for every $.01.  However, during the game, the other school will have the opportunity to lower their opponents points by donating paper money.  Coins will still add positive points to the schools total, and bills will deduct points.
